1913, Budapest, in the heart of Europe. The young Irisz Leiter arrives in the Hungarian capital with high hopes of working at the legendary hat store that belonged to her late parents. Nonetheless, she is sent away by the new owner. However, a man approaches Irisz, looking for a certain Kálmán Leiter. Refusing to leave the city, the young woman follows Kálmán’s tracks, her only link to a lost past. Her quest takes her through the dark streets of Budapest, with only the Leiter hat store shining a light, into the turmoil of a civilization on the eve of its downfall. László Nemes’ second feature premiered at this year’s Venice Film Festival, where it won the FIPRESCI Award. His debut film, Son of Saul, won the Cannes Grand Prix and both Oscar and Golden Globe awards and was awarded the Golden Pram for Best Feature Film at ZFF in 2015.

He worked as an assistant to Béla Tarr on The Man from London before studying film directing at New York University. His first feature, Son of Saul, premiered in Cannes in 2015, where it was awarded the Grand Prix, and later received both the Golden Globe and the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film in 2016. Sunset is his second feature film.
