Director Gustav Borg (Stellan Skarsgård) has always put his work first, often at the expense of his relationships with his daughters, Nora (Renate Reinsve – The Worst Person in the World) and Agnes. When Nora, now an acclaimed stage actress, declines a role in his new film, Gustav turns to the ambitious young Hollywood star Rachel Kemp (Elle Fanning). Based on a tragedy that occurred in their family home, Gustav’s new film eventually captures the attention of his daughters. Winner of the Grand Jury Prize at this year’s Cannes, Joachim Trier’s Sentimental Value (Oslo, August 31 – ZFF 2011; Louder Than Bombs – ZFF 2015; Thelma – ZFF 2017; The Worst Person in the World – ZFF 2021) is a moving meditation on family, memory, and the healing power of art.
