At first glance, 11-year-old shepherd Bruno and city boy Pietro have nothing in common, but their fateful meeting one magical summer in the Alps will engender a life-long friendship. Over the years, their paths diverge – Bruno remains faithful to his mountain, while Pietro travels the world directing documentaries. Yet he will always return to the quiet mountain refuge of his childhood. Their encounters help them face love, loss and everything that life brings. This spectacular drama directed by Felix van Groeningen (The Broken Circle Breakdown, Beautiful Boy) and Charlotte Vandermeersch received the Jury Prize at Cannes.

Felix van Groeningen
Started his career as a theater director, actor and playwright, but made his film debut in 2002 with Steve + Sky. His feature The Broken Circle Breakdown (2012) was nominated for an Oscar in the category of best international feature. Café Belgica (2016) earned him the award for best director at Sundance, while in 2018, he directed his first English-language film, Beautiful Boy, starring Steven Carell and Timothée Chalamet.
Theater, film and television actress born in Belgium in 1974. She boasts a 20-year-long acting career, and she also participated in writing the script for the feature The Broken Circle Breakdown (2012), nominated for an Oscar for best international feature. The Eight Mountains is her directorial debut, which she penned together with her partner Felix van Groeningen.
