Call for entries for FILMS and My First Script Workshop is open!

Zagreb Film Festival once again takes place in November, between the 8th and 15th November 2020 and it will traditionally represent films by up-and-coming international and Croatian filmmakers in its competition program.

The call for entries for the Festival’s competition program is open and the deadline is 23rd August. The competition program includes debut (first and second) feature and short films. Films in the main competition programs compete for the Golden Pram Award and cash prizes.

The Terms and Conditions and the Online Application Form are available via the following link.

Zagreb Film Festival has always dedicated particular attention to first-time filmmakers, whose debut films we are watching in the competition. So far, directors such as Anton Corbijn, Steve McQueen, Radu Jude, Xavier Dolan, Andrey Zvyagintsev and Sophia Coppola have competed in the main program. New Croatian directors are presented in the Checkers selection. Throughout all these years, a whole series of today acclaimed and established filmmakers have presented their first films in Zagreb (Hana Jušić, Barbara Vekarić, Sonja Tarokić, Antoneta Kusijanović etc.).

Next to the competition program the audience will have a chance a to see old and new film sections (The Great 5, Together Again, My First Film, Bib for Kids), while the Industry section for education and training features a series of workshops, lectures, panels and other events intended for professionals, young filmmakers and all the interested public.

Zagreb Film Festival – Industry announces an open call for application for the script development workshop My First Script. The workshop is intended for filmmakers who are preparing a script for their first feature-length film.

Among the received applications a total of six participants will be chosen to take part in the workshop: two from Croatia, four from Europe, including the participants from the new MEDIA sub-programme countries (such as Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, the Republic of Serbia and Turkey). The five-day workshop will be held during the 18th edition of Zagreb Film Festival.

The objective of this workshop is to help young screenwriters write a script for their first feature-length fiction film, under the guidance of two script doctors, experienced screenwriters and/or directors, Antonio Nuić and Ognjen Sviličić. Through an intense practical program with emphasis on solving problems by working in a team, young colleagues will be encouraged, in a relaxed working atmosphere, to successfully complete their scripts. The best project will be awarded with online tutoring for six months after the workshop.

The workshop is free for all participants.
More information on the call for entries can be found here.

The workshop is organised in cooperation of ZFF and the Croatian Film Directors’ Guild. Throughout previous seven editions of the workshop, a total of 48 projects from different European countries took part in the workshop. Two films that have been developed at the workshop have been screened in the program of Zagreb Film Festival, The Frog by Elmir Jukić as a part of 15th ZFF and The Load by Ognjen Glavonić, which premiered in the Cannes Directors’ Fortnight section and afterwards won the main award at the 16th Zagreb Film Festival.

Wishing a lot of luck to all the projects which are on their way to production and looking forward to new MFS applications.

The Festival is supported by City Department of Culture and Croatian Audiovisual Centre. The Festival is organized by Artistic Organization Zagreb Film Festival.
