Ulrich Seidl: The Camera Doesn’t Look Away

A masterclass by award-winning Austrian director, screenwriter, and producer Ulrich Seidl, an accomplished documentary filmmaker and one of Werner Herzog’s favourite directors, will be held in collaboration with the Maison du Cinéma program and in collaboration with Austrian Cultural Forum. Ulrich Seidl gained fame through his masterful blend of documentary and fiction styles in films exploring the pathologies of contemporary society. He is best known to the Zagreb audience for his Paradise trilogy, and in conversation with Hani Domazet, he will speak about his distinctive directorial signature, the differences between directing documentary and narrative films, and working with actors.

The masterclass will be preceded by the screening of movie

Ulrich Seidl began his career as an award-winning documentary filmmaker with Good News (1990), Animal Love (1995), and Models (1998). He directed his first narrative feature, Dog Days, in 2001 (Venice – Special Jury Prize). Import Export is his second narrative feature, and he achieved exceptional success with his award-winning Paradise trilogy. He also directed the films In the Basement (2014), Safari (2016), Rimini (2022), and Sparta (2022).
