The Croatian Premiere of God Will Not Help Marks the Festival’s Second Day

Tuesday at ZFF brought the Croatian premiere of Hana Jušić’s highly anticipated new film, along with four sold-out screenings
As part of the 23rd ZFF, the Croatian premiere of the highly anticipated historical drama God Will Not Help, directed and written by Hana Jušić, was held on Tuesday, November 11, at CineStar Branimir. Awarded in Locarno for Best Acting performance, the film tells the story of Teresa (Manuela Martelli), a Chilean woman who, at the beginning of the 20th century, travels to Mount Dinara to bury her late husband’s remains. The screening generated enormous public interest, with both festival showings (10:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m.) selling out quickly.
Led by director Hana Jušić, the premiere was also attended by producer Ankica Tilić Jurić, actress Ana Marija Veselčić, costume designer Katarina Pilić, and cinematographer Jana Plećaš, who took part in a post-screening discussion with film critic Nino Kovačić.
In addition to the screenings of God Will Not Help, the festival’s second day was marked by two more fully packed showings. At 6 p.m., audiences flocked to Kinoteka cinema for François Ozon’s latest film, an adaptation of Albert Camus’s literary classic The Stranger. Tickets also sold out for the 6 p.m. screening of Sentimental Value by Joachim Trier at the Museum of Contemporary Art. The film is Norway’s Oscar entry and winner of the Cannes Grand Audience Award.
Una Gunjak’s masterclass at Dokukino KIC was also packed. The acclaimed Sarajevo-born director, screenwriter, and editor shared insights into her process of working with child actors and non-professionals.
