My First Script Workshop

Zagreb Film Festival invites you to apply for participation in the workshop My First Script workshop, intended for authors developing a script for their first feature-length fiction film.

This year’s edition of the festival will take place from November 9 to 15, 2026. As part of the festival, the Industry programme will once again serve as a platform for education, collaboration, and networking among film professionals in the region.

A total of six participants will be selected: two from Croatia and four from other European countries, including those from the MEDIA sub-programme countries (Albania, Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, North Macedonia, and Turkey).

The aim of the workshop is to support emerging authors in developing their first feature-length scripts, under the guidance of two script doctors. The programme is focused on practical work, with emphasis on project development and tackling specific screenwriting challenges.

Applications must be submitted via the application form and should include*:

1. A short biography with personal details
2. A synopsis
3. A screenplay or treatment, and at least three developed scenes

*Projects from Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, and Montenegro may be submitted in their native languages; however, selected participants must provide an English translation by mid-October.

The results will be announced no later than early October 2026.

The workshop is co-organized by ZFF and the Croatian Film Authors’ and Producers’ Association (DHFA). Over the past thirteen editions, a total of 72 projects from various European countries have participated.

The festival is financially supported by the City of Zagreb Office for Culture, the Croatian Audiovisual Centre, the MEDIA sub-programme of the Creative Europe Programme, the Kultura nova Foundation, and the Zagreb Tourist Board.
