Jakov returns to his hometown to care for his mother, who suffers from a schizoaffective disorder. Their bond is strong and intense, almost pathological – to such a degree that his mother’s condition gradually begins to spill over into Jakov’s life, until he too finds himself on the verge of a breakdown. The dark comedy drama Mom’s Alive Today is the debut feature of the director, screenwriter, and actor from Split, Josip Lukić, which will have its world premiere at the 24th ZFF. The feature condenses the central preoccupations of his body of work – the relationship with his mother, his return to Split, and the struggle with mental illness. His graduation film It’s Not Cold for Mosquitoes, co-directed with Klara Šovagović, was awarded the Golden Pram in the Checkers program at the Zagreb Film Festival in 2022.
