Fearless eleven-year-old Lampie is the daughter of a lighthouse keeper and must light the lamp every night to warn ships away from the rocks. But one stormy night, something terrible happens. She runs out of matches, a ship is wrecked, and as punishment Lampie is sent to work as a servant at the Admiral’s Black House, where a terrifying monster is said to lurk. Adapted from Annet Schaap’s eponymous adventure fairy tale, the enchanting Lampie (8+) by Dutch director Margien Rogaar is the kind of film you watch in childhood but spend your entire adult life thinking about.
