Ten-year-old Christophe grows up on a farm in rural France, striving to meet the expectations of his stern and emotionally distant father. Things get more complicated after it is discovered he has a problem with balance and will need to wear a metal corset. Forced to reinvent his life, Christophe will soon discover a passion for music and meet the spirited girl Clara, with whom he embarks on his first adventures. Having had its world premiere at Cannes, where it won the Special Jury Prize in Un Certain Regard program, Iron Boy (10+) – the solo debut of former Pixar animator Louis Clichy (WALL-E, 2008; Up, 2009) – is a hand-painted story in which everyday life and the extraordinary are woven together in almost every scene. The film engages with its themes with enough seriousness to hold the attention of adults, while retaining the innocence and warmth that makes it equally suitable for younger audiences.
