When her father Tom reappears in town after years of absence, Meissy decides to seek him out against her mother’s wishes. She soon discovers that, contrary to what she believed, Tom has not been travelling the world, but is living as a homeless man in her own city. Despite everything, Meissy becomes increasingly drawn into his vivid world of imagination and unexpected encounters. King of the Wanderers (9+) by Dutch director Janne Schmidt is an important film that brings major themes of homelessness, poverty, and emotional vulnerability closer to children in a playful way, while teaching them that people without a home are equally deserving of our love and attention.
