Smelly, unmarried and socially ostracised, the Fisherwoman asks the local basket maker to weave her a husband from wicker. The villagers are initially shocked by her unusual partner, but as love slowly blossoms between the two, shock quickly gives way to resentment and jealousy. Led by the brilliant Olivia Colman (Tyrannosaur, ZFF 2011) and Alexander Skarsgård (Pillion, ZFF 2025), Alex Huston Fischer and Eleanor Wilson’s Wicker is a whimsical love story in which the fairy-tale surface conceals a sharp critique of the social norms that dictate who deserves love and who remains on the margins. The film is an adaptation of the short story The Wicker Husband by Ursula Wills-Jones.
