As she tries to bond with her newborn baby, a young mother finds herself under additional pressure from her parents’ visit. Sabrine Khoury’s A Tenderness offers an intimate glimpse into the inner world of mothers who, despite being surrounded by love, sometimes feel utterly alone. Drawing on the experience of a Palestinian family living in the Netherlands, the film transcends its cultural context and speaks about the invisible ways in which love, care, and fear are passed down through generations.

Sabrine Khoury is a Palestinian director and producer living and working in the Netherlands. Her work engages with the female body and spaces of intimacy, as a way of exploring identity and social and political realities. Her short film Miracle of Life (2025) won the award for Best Documentary Short at the CPH Galway Film Fleadh IFF, as well as Best Documentary and the Audience Award at the Integrazione festival. Her most recent short A Tenderness (2026) had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival.
