Since the very beginning of ZFF, we have nurtured cooperation between festivals. If you cannot attend all the major festivals in the world, this program brings major-league festivals to you.
Don’t be surprised that this year’s program of Slovenian short films is, in fact, very Croatian. Over the past year, the genre of live-action short films in Slovenia has been exceptionally marked by student productions, including two films made by Slovenian students at the Academy of Dramatic Art in Zagreb. Greek Apricots by Jan Krevatin is an award-winning vignette of easy living in post-Yugoslav reality. The film is distinguished by a refined and open approach to working with actors, a trait also evident in The Roommate by Domen Martinčič, a sensitive miniature of a relationship and longing, which was likewise produced at the Zagreb Academy.
If these two films testify to the quality of the Croatian film scene and the excellent neighbourly synergy, the Slovenian film academy is represented by the multi-award-winning Mentor by Tinkara Klipšteter, which bravely tackles the delicate subject of sexual harassment, and Shards Are for Luck by Miha Dragan, a bizarrely humorous confrontation with the world of contemporary art.
The program concludes with Common Pear, one of Slovenia’s short film highlights of the year with an impressive international festival run. This unique hybrid film by Gregor Božič addresses the climate crisis through a thoughtful blend of documentary and science fiction.
Enjoy the films with us!
