Every year, Gerrie travels from his sunny Portuguese oasis, where he lives with his second wife, to the dreary and gray Rotterdam for regular medical check-ups. There he is greeted by his adult son Dick, who longs for quality time with his father, something that Gerrie stubbornly (and successfully) avoids. But as the proverb says, “guests, like fish, begin to smell after three days”, so over the next three days, we follow the witty and explosive communication between father and son as they clumsily, but persistently, fish for love from each other. The film opened this year’s Karlovy Vary IFF, where the lead acting pair was awarded for best performances.
