André (Herbert Nordrum – The Worst Person in the World) and Vera are the ideal Swedish couple – young, beautiful, enterprising and on the way up. When they get the chance to pitch their women’s health app at a prestigious competition, success seems within reach. The night before the competition, Vera goes into hypnotherapy to quit smoking. But the therapy has an unexpected side effect – the loss of all social inhibitions. Faced with Vera’s newfound carefree attitude, André starts behaving strangely. Frighteningly accurate and witty in its portrayal of the infamous millennial angst and sense of shame, The Hypnosis is both a fun and clever satire, pointed at the modern start-up culture where authenticity is just another product to be sold. The film premiered at Karlovy Vary, where Herbert Nordrum was awarded Best Actor.
