Director Nevio Marasović (Vis-À-Vis – ZFF 2013; Goran – ZFF 2016; Good Times, Bad Times – ZFF 2023) has tucked a whole range of genres and styles under his belt – always with a touch of humour. After a dystopian sci-fi, a darkly humorous thriller, a meta-narrative supernatural drama about death, he is ready to take on a romantic drama. Struggling with his midlife crisis, a famous film director (Janko Popović Volarić) calls his the-one-who-got-away ex-girlfriend (Lana Barić) to a lakeside house on Bled to help him write a script based on their relationship. When they re-meet in a romantic and secluded setting, all the suppressed resentment resurfaces, but so do their happy moments. The film was awarded the Pula Golden Arena for Best Music and Actress, and thanks to its enjoyable and unforced realism, it earned comparisons to Linklater’s cult Before Trilogy.
Nevio Marasović (1983) graduated in Film and TV Directing at the Academy of Dramatic Art. His first feature The Show Must Go On (2008) earned him the Golden Birch in Pula for best newcomer, and received the Golden Arenas for Best Script and Special Effects. His second feature Vis-À-Vis received a ZFF jury special mention in 2013, followed by Goran (ZFF 2016) and Good Times, Bad Times (ZFF 2023). His feature Comic Sans (2017) won the Audience Award and six Golden Arenas in Pula, while his latest film, This Is Not a Love Song (2024), took home the Golden Arenas for Best Music and Best Actress.
