Emmanuelle goes on a business trip to Hong Kong, in search of pleasure she can no longer experience. There she undergoes a transformation in a series of erotic adventures. The new film by the director of the award-winning Happening (ZFF 2021) is a contemporary rendering of the 1960s cult erotic novel, which spawned the even more cult film series in the 70s. The first Emmanuelle was also the first openly erotic film shown in regular cinemas, with people standing in line for hours to see it. The titular role, which originally propelled Sylvia Kristel to stardom, is now played by actress Noemie Merlant, who is joined on screen by Naomi Watts, Will Sharpe (White Lotus) and many others.
