Cristi Puiu Coming to Zagreb!

Cristi Puiu, one of the leading directors of today, is coming to Zagreb this autumn!

Together Again, one of the section of the 14th ZFF, is showing his latest film Sieranevada, which is fantastic chance to finally meet the director whose films we have been following since the very beginning.

This Romanian director is an old friend of ZFF. His film Cigarettes and Coffee won the best short film award at the 2nd ZFF, and his later films Aurora and The Death of Mr Lazarescu competed in the main selection. His low-budget and seldom screened film Stuff and Dough screened at the 12th ZFF and its My First Film section.

Cristi Puiu was born 1967 in Bucharest. He first expressed a penchant for art by enrolling in a university course in painting at a Geneva academy, but after the first year he switched to film directing at the same city. After graduating and returning to Romania, he began making films which soon earned him critical acclaim and audience’s affection. The most successful and prominent among them is definitely The Death of Mr Lazarescu, a three-hour feature reality about the Bucharest ambulance, which brought him the award in Un Certain Regard at the Cannes Film Festival in 2005. This films is considered the beginning of the so-called Romanian New Wave.
