Set against the backdrop of the 1993 election crisis in Lagos, Nigeria’s largest city, the film follows a father and his two estranged sons as they navigate the vast metropolis amid political unrest, trying to find their way home. At once intimate and epic, this deeply personal family story is inspired by the director’s own life. Winner of the Caméra d’Or Special Mention at Cannes, My Father’s Shadow is a journey through memory, masculinity, and a country on the cusp of transformation from military dictatorship to democracy.
