Albert Kapović Award

If you haven’t stood at Bače, under the volatile Split sky at one of the most charming open-air
cinemas in the world, anxiously looking up alongside the Artistic Director of the Mediterranean Film
Festival Split, Alen Munitić, then crossed your fingers, played the film and hoped for the best, then
you haven’t experienced the moment when the audience puts plastic bags from the local grocery
store on their heads and continues watching the film despite the rain. And that’s why you could
never fully know whether you’ve captured the audience’s soul.

First and foremost, Alen Munitić understands and loves the audience. He travels the world, watches
films, and brings them to the people who rarely get to see such works. He talks to the audience,
listens to their reactions, gets nervous when they watch a film he selected for the first time. Most
importantly, Alen Munitić watches Croatian films and knows how to convey his love to others. In
other words, he handles distribution proficiently and in a way anyone who performs the role of
distributor should.

Thanks to Alen Munitić, every one of our small towns has a cinema, in a country where big cities
often neglect theirs. Next year, together with his amazing team, he will celebrate 18 years of the
Mediterranean Film Festival Split, 13 years of film screening and 12 years of the distribution concept
called Kino Mediteran. He manages to make modest funds go a long way, satisfying the cultural
demand for film, where others fail to do so. That is why, this year, the Croatian Producers
Association is very pleased to present Alen Munitić with the Albert Kapović Award.
