Celebration arrives to Zagreb screens after its triumphant foray at the Pula Film Festival, where it took home a handful of Golden Arenas (including the one for Best Film). Based on the novel by Damir Karakaš and premiering at Karlovy Vary, Bruno Anković’s exciting debut is a disconcerting look into the past as a warning for the present. It’s the end of World War II. Tired and defeated, soldier Mijo hides in the forest. From his hiding spot, he observes his native village, to which he can never return. Taking us on an intense journey into the past, through three key moments of Mijo’s life, Celebration investigates the circumstances that have led to the expansion of extremism in society.
