Italy in the 1980s and 90s. Riccardo Schicchi founds the model agency and film studio Diva Futura, revolutionising mass culture. Under his leadership, the “girls next door” Ilona Staller and Moana Pozzi become national superstars and enter family homes across Italy by way of TV screens, while the media frenzy eventually leads them into politics. Only they are not your typical movie stars, but representatives of a new type of diva – porn stars. Diva Futura is a biographical film about the birth of the flamboyant Italian porn industry of the 1980s and 90s, told from the point of view of the wall-flower secretary, Debora, employed at the agency to pay off a loan. The film premiered in the main competition program of the Venice Film Festival and it features the Croatian actress Tesa Litvan (Even Pigs Go to Heaven, The Diary Of Diana B.).
Giulia Louise Steigerwalt is an actress, screenwriter and director. She graduated in philosophy, after which she attended several screenwriting courses. She wrote scripts for a number of Italian films and the series Zio Gianni. In 2022, she directed her first full-length feature, September, while Diva Futura is her second feature. It premiered at the Venice Film Festival, and then screened at Toronto.
