My First Film this year focuses on Irish authors

My First Film section was first introduced in 2008, and so far it gave us a chance to get a good insight into the first films made by the most significant Spanish, German, Danish, Austrian, Polish, Romanian and other European directors today. Selected by film critic Nenad Polimac, this year’s line-up includes cinematic debuts by the most famous Irish directors like Jim Sheridan and his iconic piece My Left Foot, the famous director John Crowley’s first film Intermission, a mosaic portrayal of Irish lower middle class filled with sex, violence, humour and, of course, beer. The selection also includes John Michael McDonagh’s film The Guard, considered the greatest commercial success of independent Irish cinema ever.
