Dying

The Lunies family haven’t been close for a long time. Lissy is quietly happy that her husband Gerd has dementia and has to go to a home. But her new-found freedom is short-lived. Diabetes, cancer and kidney failure mean she doesn’t have much time left either. It seems their son Tom, a music conductor, and daughter Ellen, a dental assistant, aren’t doing much better either. The estranged family will reunite in a spectacular fireworks display of brutally honest confessions, bloody pathos and tragic comedy. This darkly humorous drama about the breakup of the nuclear family was awarded the Silver Bear for Best Screenplay at the Berlinale.
