(Dario Juričan, 2010), Playing the Tiger (Jasna Nanut, 2015), The Beast (Miroslav Sikavica, 2016), Smart Girls (Sonja Tarokić and Hana Jušić, 2010), Fifth Floor on the Left (Renata Lučić, 2018).

The short film form plays an important role in the industry because it is usually the first step filmmakers make in creating films. This is where directors, scriptwriters, actors, editors, and other film professionals are made. Numerous film festivals recognized the importance of short form and dedicated a part of their program for screening and promotion of short films.

This was also recognized by Zagreb Film Festival 15 years ago when Checkers, the competition program for Croatian short films, started. This well-visited and extremely popular program has for years been one of the most important platforms for promoting young domestic talents in the region. Our platform is envisioned as a development and an upgrade of Checkers, or as a wider programmer’s hand which enables all viewers a quality insight into the short film production anytime and anywhere.

The platform is co-financed by the Ministry of Culture and the Croatian Audiovisual Center, and the project coordinator is the art organization Zagreb Film Festival.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for watching, following, and enjoying Croatian short films! Continue following us at
