In Minotaur, the new film by two-time ZFF Golden Pram laureate Andrey Zvyagintsev (The Return, ZFF 2003 – Golden Pram; The Banishment, ZFF 2007 – Golden Pram), the carefully controlled life of a powerful businessman starts to unravel when he discovers his wife is having an affair. Through an intimate story of infidelity inspired by Chabrol’s The Unfaithful Wife, Zvyagintsev addresses the political, spiritual, and moral condition of contemporary Russia, delivering his indictment of his homeland with skill and through complex layers of irony, rage, and the darkest of humour. The film is France’s Oscar submission and had its world premiere at Cannes, where it won the Grand Prix.
