When a video of a student threatening their classmates spreads online, tension at the school escalates. Pressured by the expectations of teachers and parents, three outsiders find refuge in a nearby forest, where play gives way to bizarre bonding rituals. Awarded the Bisato d'Oro Grand Jury Prize in Venice, Jannis Lenz’ bold debut feature Oasis is an impressively shot coming-of-age story that approaches the subject of bullying from a fresh, unconventional perspective. The film draws on the director’s personal experience, and its unsettling tension evokes the work of Michael Haneke, under whom Lenz studied during his film directing studies.
