MIDPOINT Intensive Croatia is an intensive four-day creative development workshop, organised in partnership between ZFF, MIDPOINT Institute and Croatian Audiovisual Centre. It is a professional training program open to Croatian creative teams of filmmakers (scriptwriter, director and producer) who are developing their short fiction film projects. The workshop consists of group work and individual consultations with experienced script consultant, Pavel Marek.

WORKSHOP TEAM:

Pavel Marek
Pavel Marek graduated from the Faculty of Computer Engineering in the Czech Republic and then completed his studies at the Directing Department at FAMU. During the communist era, he co-founded the underground film association Bulsitfilm, in which he started collaborating with surrealist filmmakers and appeared as an actor in the films of the legendary director Jan Švankmajer. His feature-length graduation film Dead Beetle (1998) won the Volkskrant Critics Award at the International Film Festival Rotterdam. Later he would focus mainly on documentary films and writing scripts for the animation series Pat and Mat. He is a professor at the Directing Department at FAMU, Head of Studies of MIDPOINT Shorts, and works as a script consultant.

Barbora Drtílková
Barbora Drtílková has been working for MIDPOINT since 2024. She is currently finishing her production studies at FAMU in Prague. She collaborated with numerous film festivals and was the head of programming of the Mezipatra Queer Film Festival. Her work revolves around social, political and feminist topics, and she is currently finishing her first feature documentary, The Other One, directed by Marie-Magdalena Kochová. Outside of film, she spends her time in the woods as a scout troop leader.

Kristýna Plhoňová
Kristýna Plhoňová graduated from the Faculty of Social Sciences, Charles University in Prague. For almost ten years she worked for the publishing house Vltava-Labe-Press, and from 2008 to 2014 she wrote for the daily bulletin of the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival. She also collaborated with the Ji.hlava International Documentary Film Festival and Febiofest. In 2014, she joined MIDPOINT, where she currently works as a program and communications coordinator. She is also a mother of two.
