*In competition for the Young Jury Award
Young Julie is a rising star at an elite tennis academy. Enamoured with tennis, Julie devotes her whole life to the sport. When a scandal breaks out at the academy and its strict but successful coach is placed under investigation, female club members reluctantly speak out about their experiences. But Julie remains silent, focused on the game and seemingly unfazed by it all. This excellent and intense character study boasts a top-notch film crew, including director of photography Nicolas Karakatsanis (I, Tonya; Cruella), while Pulitzer winner Caroline Shaw composed the score. The central performance by the young actress TessaVan den Broeck, also a tennis player in real life, garnered widespread critical praise. The film premiered in Cannes, winning the SACD Award and is nominated for this year’s LUX Audience Award.
