When eight-year-old Josephine (Mason Reeves) witnesses a brutal crime in San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park, her world changes entirely. Based on real events from the director and screenwriter’s own childhood, Beth de Araújo’s Josephine immerses the audience in the perspective of a girl forced to confront a world she does not yet understand. A deeply affecting study of trauma, the film won both the Grand Jury Prize and the Audience Award at this year’s Sundance Film Festival.
