Anica (60) refuses to continue with her chemotherapy, feeling that her daughter’s care as an affront to her dignity, while Vlatko (60) lives in seclusion, long ago cast off by everyone he once worked with. Bound together by the bitterness that once drove them apart, they become unlikely allies in a desperate cry for life. Premiered in Rotterdam, the superbly crafted miniature Wind Beneath the Wings by Sonja Tarokić (The Staffroom, ZFF 2021 – Special Mention; On Shaky Ground, ZFF 2014 – Golden Pram, Checkers) is a layered family story about two former spouses on the brink of old age, with Vesna Trivalić and Milivoj Miki Roš in leading roles.

Sonja Tarokić (1988) is a Croatian director and screenwriter. She holds an MA in film directing from the Academy of Dramatic Art in Zagreb and a BA in comparative literature from the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Zagreb. Prior to her feature debut The Staffroom (2022) – which premiered in the main competition at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival and won five Golden Arenas at the Pula Film Festival, including Best Film – she directed several award-winning fiction shorts (On Shaky Ground, ZFF 2014 – Golden Pram, Checkers). Her medium-length film Wind Beneath the Wings (2025) screened at the 2026 International Film Festival Rotterdam.
