Melt, the new film by Austrian documentary filmmaker Nikolaus Geyrhalter, immerses audiences in a world of snow and ice, introducing them to the stories of the people who live within it. From the largest glacier of the Alps to a research station in Antarctica, Geyrhalter visits spectacular locations across the world in order to paint the most comprehensive possible picture of the disappearance of ice that was once assumed to be eternal.

Nikolaus Geyrhalter (Vienna, 1972) is an Austrian director, producer and cinematographer who founded the production company Nikolaus Geyrhalter Filmproduktion in 1994. Assuming the role of passive observer, Geyrhalter shoots his films with a static camera and a measured rhythm, whether he is exploring the Chernobyl area in Ukraine (Pripyat, 1998), tracing a rally route (7915 km, 2008), or investigating the production of processed food (Our Daily Bread, 2005). His new film Melt, shot between 2021 and 2025, deals with the lives of people under the direct impact of global warming.
