Thirteen-year-old Dua (Pinea Matoshi) is caught in a whirlwind of change. Her body is transforming in tandem with the shifting socio-political landscape of the late 1990s in Pristina, where she lives with her Albanian family. After an incident that deeply shakes her community, she finds herself confronted with new, all-encompassing feelings. In her new film, Blerta Basholli – director of Hive (ZFF 2021), the first Kosovar film to be shortlisted for an Academy Award – weaves the troubles of adolescence together with the atmosphere of fear in Kosovo on the eve of war. Dua had its world premiere in the 65th Critics’ Week at Cannes, where it won the SACD Award.
