Bako checks into a psychiatric hospital for alcoholism treatment. While inside, he meets Medea, a drug addict, and Drago, a good-natured inpatient. When the head doctor decides to organise the bizarre Olympics on the ward, the three of them form a team called Hotel Alcohol – and lose. After their defeat, they leave the hospital, but their journey ends somewhere unexpected. Slovenian director Jan Cvitkovič’s (Gravehopping, ZFF 2005) Hotel Alcohol is a darkly comic social drama about three people on the margins of society searching for closeness, freedom, and belonging.

Jan Cvitkovič (Ljubljana, 1966) is the screenwriter and director of feature films Bread and Milk (2001), Gravehopping (ZFF 2005), Archeo (ZFF 2011), Šiška Deluxe (2015), The Basics of Killing (ZFF 2017), and Hotel Alcohol (2026). His films have screened at more than 200 internationally recognised festivals and have won over 60 awards. In October 2025, he received the prestigious FICE Award from the Italian Federation of Arthouse Cinemas for his contribution to film art.
