A trip to the nearby shop takes an unexpected turn for eight-year-old Maks when his grandfather, who has dementia, decides to go looking for a woman he once loved. Drawing on a personal experience of loss, Dora Šustić’s Bananafish evokes an atmosphere of memory, nostalgia, and longing, in an attempt to capture the moment when someone close to us begins to slowly slip away.

Dora Šustić (Rijeka, 1991) graduated in Political Science from the University of Ljubljana and holds an MA in Screenwriting from FAMU in Prague. She is the author of the novel Dogs, several theatre, TV, and film scripts, including the screenplay for the feature film Block 5 (ZFF 2024). For her drama piece Pičman she received the Marin Držić Award from the Croatian Ministry of Culture and Media.
