Ingrid is a gynaecologist at a remote district hospital in mid-1980s Czechoslovakia, where she is having an affair with a younger colleague, and after work sits on an abortion committee that offers Roma women the option of sterilisation. An unexpected friendship with the charismatic Roma woman Agáta, who takes a job at the hospital as a nurse, will challenge her entire worldview. The winner of the FIPRESCI Award in the Crystal Globe Competition at Karlovy Vary, Only Beautiful Things to Look At by Slovak director Ivan Ostrochovský is a haunting portrait of the cruelty of this unresolved chapter in Czechoslovak history.
