Wild boars ravaging crops in rural France spark a conflict between local farmers and members of a hunting club. The conflict escalates when a bankrupt farmer named Brun shoots the club president and vanishes. A year later, the case is given to Fulda, an impulsive police officer newly transferred to the area. The feature debut of experienced shorts filmmaker Sarah Arnold, Too Many Beasts is a thrilling and eccentric dark comedy about an unpredictable investigation that warps reality with its peculiar approach to the detective genre. With outstanding performances from Alexis Manenti (Guardians of the Formula, ZFF 2023; The Man Who Could Not Remain Silent, ZFF 2024) and Ella Rumpf (Raw, 2016), Arnold deftly steers us through the chaos, and a stampede of wild boars, in this dynamic and intriguing debut, which won the Europa Cinemas Label Award at Cannes.
